Underrated movie from 1993. Directed by Taylor Hackford & starring Benjamin Bratt, Jesse Borrego, Damien Chapa, Danny Trejo, Victor Rivas, Delroy Lindo, BillyBob Thornton, Ving Rhames & many more! After Cruz is beaten up & nearly paralysed by a rival gang, his crew, the Vatos Locos, which include his Brother Paco & his cousin Miklo, seek retribution on the Tres Puntos. All goes well untill Spider, the leader of the Tres Puntos, is shot dead. They get chased by the police & its ends up where the family members are sent down different roads in their life; Paco to the military. Miklo to prison & Cruz falls into drug addiction. 3 hour movie that moves at lighting speed & that spans a 11 year time period.1973 to 1984. Apart from being a gang film, its more about family, especially in the Latino culture. Damien Chapa's (Miklo) acting is horrible at first, but by the end of the movie, he is outstanding. The music score by Bill Conti (Rocky) is one of the best soundtracks ive ever heard, which captures latino life of the time perfectly. I still can't find it! I don't know about the US, but in the UK this film was slated & given 1 Star rating out of 5, which i consider a crime!!! Its one of those films that you don't want it to end! I feel Taylor Hackford did a very good job as he was critised for being an Anglo directing, in essence, a latino film. Love Movies?? Enjoy.
