1 Great Fruit and 5 Easy Ways to Lower Blood Pressure

It is not as widely known as one might think that there really is one great fruit that can lower blood pressure. The humble tomato has been proven, in recent Israeli studies to help lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of cancer later in life, and helps to keep your heart healthy and working as it should. It is not completely understood as to why this has only just recently been discovered, as scientists have tested thousands of different types of fruit and vegetables to determine their potential health benefits.

The best news of all is the tomato is so easy to get a hold of. You can buy them almost anywhere, and even some of the big brands of tomato sauce contain enough real tomatoes to be just as beneficial, although not in massive quantities as they also contain rather a lot of sugar. Fresh tomatoes are a very effective anti-oxidant and also help to reduce the risk of most forms of heart disease. Shocking that the Italians, who are well known for having a very low rate of heart disease cases reported, have been eating so many tomatoes for such a long time, and nobody has picked up on it.

The study on the health benefits of tomatoes was led by Dr. Esther Paran, who is the leading lady at the hypertension division of Soroka Medical Center. It was mostly a case study performed on patients suffering from hyper-tension, where other medicines had completely failed. Dr. Paran gave patients a dose of concentrated tomato essence, along with adding tomatoes into their diets, at least more than usual. The results were astonishing. Dr. Paran saw results fast, sometimes in as little as four or five weeks. This aqueous fruit definitely looks to be an almost miracle treatment, although it is not a cure.

The effectiveness of the tomato in lowering blood pressure etc. is attributed to the natural presence of the chemical Lycopene. This is a very powerful anti-oxidant that has recently been extracted from 'hybrid' tomatoes that were grown in Israel, called the Lycomato, which were specifically grown to ensure higher concentrations of Lycopene, inside each and every piece of tomato. Lycopene is not the only anti-oxidant that is naturally present in tomatoes. The long list make tomatoes a 'super-food' in reference to lots of different potential heart conditions. Whilst tomatoes may not necessarily lower cholesterol, if you eat them regularly, they can help to prevent LDL cholesterol from sticking to the inside walls of the

Even during the peak growing season it can be difficult to consume four whole tomatoes each day, which is the recommended amount for having a positive impact on blood pressure. Here are some ways to get the benefits of tomatoes without having to eat them straight off the vine.

1. Make Chili. Using tomato puree, which is a concentrated form of tomatoes, as the base for your chili utilizes the antioxidants without the bulk of a whole tomato. Add some ultra-lean and high protein ground bison and kidney beans with minced garlic and onions, and cayenne pepper and you have a heart-healthy main course and a full day's allowance of tomato.

2. Take a leaf out of the Italian's book and eat pasta in a tomato sauce. Use olive oil to fry the onions and garlic, use tomato puree or paste to color the sauce, and use fresh and/or canned tomatoes to flavor and fill the sauce. Using this many tomato ingredients ensures that you will consume far more than the necessary amount of tomatoes and nearly ten times as many nutrients.

3. With any food you can have a side salad, as it does not add many calories. If you have one tomato, whole, sliced, it does not really matter how you eat, just that you do.

4. Drinking your own homemade tomato juice is one of the best ways to cram as many tomatoes as you can into a juicer, making sure that you have a huge dose of the beneficial anti-oxidants.

5. You can buy 200mg tomato supplement tablets. These are good for anybody that does not like the taste of tomatoes but still wants to use them as a medicine. When you take these tablets you are actually taking in more nutrients than you would if you ate the full recommended four tomatoes.

Eating more tomatoes reduces systolic blood pressure by up to 10 points and diastolic blood pressure by up to 4 points. It has definitely become apparent that tomatoes are very, very beneficial for you and your well being, no matter how they are prepared.

Blood Disorders That Can Affect Patients with Lupus

It was shown that, even if it seems hard to believe, the initial signs of lupus may appear in the blood, a blood disorder can be the first sign that comes in patients having systemic lupus erythematosus.Systemic lupus erythematosus can show hematological symptoms like anemia, thrombocytopenia, low white blood cell counts and clotting disturbances. That is why, specialists in disorders of the blood can be of real help.

One of the most usual hematological abnormalities that can appear in persons having lupus is anemia. Anemia consists in a reduction in the number of red blood cells and it is recognized by some tests, such as, the hemoglobin concentration in blood, the hematocrit and the red blood cell count. It is known that anemia can have many causes, and in what concerns persons with lupus, anemia can appear because of a chronic inflammation, iron deficiency, prolonged uremia or hemolytic anemia. It is also known that fatigue, which is suffered by many patients having lupus can contribute to the apparition of anemia.

Prolonged uremia, which appears because of an impaired kidney function can lead to anemia. Anemia caused by prolonged uremia can be treated with androgens or erythropoietin, a recently developed hormone having role in the stimulation of red cell production. Sometimes, chronic uremia can determine the apparition of more severe forms of anemia, and that requires blood transfusions.

Prolonged inflammation, which is an important cause of anemia in patients that have lupus, hinders the production of red blood cells by the bone marrow. Because of this inflammation, iron, which is very important in the production of hemoglobin accumulates unused in the marrow tissue. The solution to restore normal red blood cell production is to ease the inflammatory condition.

Iron deficiency is another cause of anemia that can appear because of the blood loss from the body. Drugs that are used in the treatment of lupus can irritate the stomach and produce bleeding and from there results iron-deficient anemia. Iron deficient can become also women that have heavy or frequent menstrual periods.Anemic patients should take some tests for blood loss from the stomach or intestines. It is important to do that, because the source of bleeding must be found and treated.Iron deficient anemia can be corrected in a short time by taking iron tablets.

Hemolytic anemia is a condition that can appear in some people with lupus, usually due to antibodies directed against red blood cells. In this condition, auto-antibodies interact with the red blood cells, and the result is that the red blood cells are removed in the spleen or liver by scavenger cells.Usually, steroids like Prednisone are effective into treating this type of anemia, but there are cases of patients that do not respond to the treatment, and surgical removal of the spleen may be required. Also in severe cases, it is needed a blood transfusion. It is known that a deficiency of thrombocytes, which are tiny particles in the blood, essential for blood clotting causes thrombocytopenia. This leads to bleeding from the gums, nose, or intestines and excessive skin bruising. As some typical signs of thrombocytopenia, we can mention petechiae and pinpoint hemorrhages in the skin.In person with lupus, usually occurs immune thrombocytopenia. This appears because antibodies destroy the platelets, similarly with the destruction of the red blood cells in the autoimmune hemolytic anemia. As a treatment, we can mention steroids like Prednisone and in severe cases splenectomy may be needed.

It was discovered that patients that have lupus produce an antibody called the lupus anti-coagulant. It was seen that some patients with the lupus anti-coagulant tend to form clots abnormally condition called venous thrombosis. That is a paradox that science can't explain yet.Sometimes, venous thrombosis can associate with pulmonary embolus, and particularly that situation requires treatment with anti-coagulant drugs such as heparin and Coumadin. Lupus anti-coagulant was also detected in cases of recurrent fetal loss, but it is not known if it causes the so-called habitual spontaneous abortion.

Patients with lupus can experience also some abnormalities , like granulocytopenia, which means there is a low granulocyte count, and lymphocytopenia- when there is a low number of lymphocytes. Usually, these abnormalities are harmless and without symptoms, but there can occur severe granulocytopenia, which is usually caused by a reaction to medication. In this case, there must be stopped the intake of the causative drug, and if there is an infection, treatment with antibiotics is required.

Nowadays, there is a great concern about the risk of getting AIDS by blood transfusions. It is good to know that there were developed tests for antibodies against the virus that causes AIDS, and all the blood donors are screened for such antibodies.Of course, the safest thing that can be done is to store your blood for later transfusion, but this is not always practical. It is also possible in some blood banks to designate a member of the family to donate blood for you, but it must be taken in consideration the possibility of blood incompatibility.

Lowering Blood Pressure With Magnesium

Lower blood pressure: a whole basketful of foods, supplements and formulas come with claims to help you achieve it... The menu includes chocolate, beetroot juice, celery root, Hawthorne berry, grapefruit, apple cider vinegar, garlic, vitamin C, Coenzyme Q-10, fish oil and many, many more.

The problem is that few if any of these hypertension "miracle cures" demonstrate anything more than negligible and/or temporary effects. Most of the evidence behind these claims is anecdotal and likely to be withdrawn once the placebo effect has worn off.

But there is one substance that is gaining expert support and medical validity; it's magnesium. The medicinal uses of magnesium are many and varied. It has traditionally been used to relieve constipation. For sufferers of high blood pressure this is reason enough to increase their intake of magnesium. That's because common hypertension medications, calcium channel blockers, in particular, are notorious for the constipation they bring on.

But magnesium also has major roles to play in our bodies, not just side effects, no matter how helpful they are. Magnesium is vital to the proper functioning and repair of our cells. For this reason it has long been a first-line treatment for survival and recovery from heart attack where it is often supplied intravenously. One major study showed that intravenous magnesium reduced the odds of death following a heart attack by an amazing 55%.

Recent studies reveal that magnesium also plays a major role in preventing heart disease, in part by helping to maintain lower blood pressure. It does this independently by means of its regulatory role in cellular processes and, just as importantly, it does it jointly in concert with other minerals in the body.

A healthy balance of minerals in our bodies is vital for regulating blood pressure. In this regard, calcium, potassium and sodium all work together with magnesium. Most people with high blood pressure will know that they need to limit their consumption of sodium. Actually, the real problem is not sodium itself but the imbalance of minerals resulting from an unhealthy diet.

This mechanism applies to potassium as well. Potassium has also earned credentials for its ability to reduce blood pressure but its action is not independent of the other minerals. It's very difficult to measure the effects in our bodies of one mineral alone. For example, studies show that people eating diets rich in magnesium usually have lower blood pressure. But magnesium-rich diets also tend to be high in potassium (and probably other minerals as well). So what's really at work here?

Which brings us to the question of how to obtain sufficient levels of magnesium and/or potassium. Most of us are likely to answer "with supplements", a fact reflected in booming sales of supplements in recent years. But the issues arising from divorcing these minerals from their natural balance indicate a different answer: get your healthy mineral balance from a good diet, which will be high in a variety of elements.

Foods rich in magnesium and often other important minerals include all sorts of nuts and seeds, whole grains, beans, and leafy green vegetables such spinach, broccoli, peas and artichoke. Note that processing foods often degrades their nutrient value. That means refined grains lose most of their magnesium. Freezing and canning, on the other hand, usually retain the original nutrients.

Excess sodium, low potassium, deficient magnesium levels... trying to balance them by juggling supplements is a guessing game at best. Studies confirm only very mixed results through taking supplements. The sensible path to a healthy heart and blood pressure is a varied diet of whole, natural foods that tend to be balanced in nutrients.

High Blood Pressure - The Silent Killer

You wake up in the morning and you have a pain in your right side. It's pretty acute. You're not sure but you think it might be your appendix. At the very least, you do feel some pain and suspect that something is wrong. So you go to the doctor to get checked up. With high blood pressure, unfortunately, this is not always the case. A person can be walking around with high blood pressure for years and not know it until one day they have a stroke or heart attack. There are no symptoms, no warnings, nothing, until many times it is too late. That's why they call high blood pressure the silent killer.

So what exactly is high blood pressure and what causes it?

High blood pressure, basically, is when the force of the blood against your artery walls is just too strong. When this happens, it can damage your arteries, heart and kidneys. The only time you'll ever feel anything from this is when your blood pressure is dangerously high. By that time, it is usually too late to do anything about it. And if treatment isn't administered quickly, severe organ damage can occur.

Blood pressure is measured by systolic and diastolic pressures. Systolic pressure is the pressure of blood against the arteries after the heart has finished pumping. This is the top number in the reading. Diastolic pressure is the pressure of blood against the arteries between heart beats, or when the heart is at rest. This is the bottom number reading.

There has been a lot of debate about what "normal" blood pressure should be. Years ago it was believed that 120 over 80 was a "normal" blood pressure reading. Today, from what we have learned, it is better to have a lower bottom number around 70. So a blood pressure reading of 120 over 70 would be considered normal. Any numbers above these are considered high blood pressure or hypertension.

So what do you do if you have high blood pressure, which can be easily diagnosed by going to your doctor? Well, this is actually one area that doctors agree, at least in part, with those who prefer natural methods over drugs. The first thing a doctor will usually recommend is a life style change. There are probably many reasons for your high blood pressure such as smoking, stress and improper diet, specifically eating foods with a lot of sodium.

The problem is, your doctor will only give you some basic guidelines to follow and usually these aren't enough. Ultimately, they end up putting you on some very dangerous drugs which I urge you to avoid at all costs. The side effects and potential dangers are not pleasant.

There is a better way. High blood pressure can be controlled with natural methods that aren't harmful to your body. You can get more information at our website which you will find in the author's bio.

You don't have to suffer from high blood pressure any longer.

The Blood Sugar Level Chart - A Crucial Tool in Maintaining a Normal Blood Glucose Level

Contrary to common belief, understanding the body's sugar levels through a blood sugar level chart is not only for people who have diabetes. As the matter of fact, it can be as an early warning if the body will develop diabetes and in some instances be the key to preventing diabetes. However, even with blood sugar chart, maintaining a healthy blood sugar level can still be a difficult task for some, depending on how their body utilizes and responds to glucose.

In normal cases, blood sugar or glucose, which is the main means of transporting energy to all of the body's cells, is maintained through insulin - which in turn, is the chemical that injects blood sugar to the various cells of the body. Whenever food that contains more than normal sugar level enters the body, extra insulin is produced to lower the blood stream's sugar ratio so that it can accommodate the extra amount of sugar going in. Experts agree that this makes the body a little bit more hyperactive as the body cells receive a sudden boost of energy.

This ability to maintain the body's sugar ratio diminishes when one develops diabetes - when, due to some reasons, the pancreas stops or reduces its insulin production. In these cases, having a blood sugar level chart gains a paramount importance as the body stops automatically using up "extra" sugar in the bloodstream. Too much blood sugar damages small blood vessels, the usual victim is the eyes since there are a lot of small blood vessels lining your eyes. Hence, keeping a blood sugar level chart is important to further prevent damages to blood vessels.

A normal person's body sugar ratio normally ranges in between 4 to 8 mmol/l. This unit measures how much glucose is present per liter of blood plasma. As said, your body adjusts to the many factors affecting the blood sugar in the body. Hence, your levels may vary depending on how far you are from your meals or what your mood is. Your normal body sugar level before meals is anywhere between 4 to 7 mmol/l. 90 minutes after a meal as your body begins to intake digested food, it goes up to just below 10 mmol/l. Before and during your sleep, as your body prepares to rest, your body sugar stabilizes at 8 mmol/l.

Going below these levels are harmful too. This condition known as hypoglycemia can lead to coma or fainting. Mildly, this causes clumsiness. Severely, it can lead to death. If asleep, hypoglycemia can cause nightmares and feeling tired or confused after waking up. In normal people, whenever the body's sugar level goes dangerously low, it triggers hunger, thus prompting the person to eat and have an early glucose intake. The body still responds and prevents this condition. However, there are instances when the body can't especially when the person has a habit of skipping meals, the body would not have enough glucose stored in the liver and in the muscles, thus causing weakness or sleepiness.

In the end, maintaining good sugar levels in the body is important not only to maintain good health but in keeping the body in optimum shape and the mind in optimum attention.

Blood Diamonds - A Background

Blood diamonds are also referred to as "conflict diamonds" due to military and corporation conflicts that surround the harvesting and sales of these diamonds. Large and intense wars are fought over diamond mines, and unregulated sales are often used to fund world conflicts. Often caught in the middle of these diamond wars are the harvesters, primarily children, who suffer tragic and sometimes fatal injuries during the wars.

The first public awareness and action against the inhumane treatment of diamond harvesters began in the early 2000s. Campaigns by Amnesty International and Global Exchange were launched with the primary purpose of exposing the blood diamond trade as a travesty for those who harvested the diamonds, as well as the illicit trade in conflict funding.

At that same time, it reached the Congressional level in the United States, but the proposal languished as provisions were hard to finalize. The 9/11 terrorists acts brought renewed energy to regulating the blood diamond trade when it was discovered that Al Queda had been funded with large purchases of Sierra Leone blood diamonds.

In 2003, the Kimberley Process was established to negate the international trade in diamonds that fund conflict. The certification scheme requires governments to certify that all shipments of rough diamonds exclude blood diamonds. Countries that participate in the Kimberley Process must adhere to legislative procedure in the trade of diamonds.

Although the Kimberley Process has seen progress in blocking the trade of blood diamonds, they remain a part of the diamond trade and continue to enter legitimate markets. Loopholes and weaknesses in the scheme allow illicit trade to continue.

Herbs for High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure is one of the most common health problems and is a major risk factor in cardiovascular disease. While there are various medications to lower blood pressure, many people prefer to take herbs for high blood pressure instead. This is because herbs are easily absorbed by the body and have little to no chemical content, reducing the risk of side effects.

Herbs for high blood pressure may be added to food or taken as tea, tincture, or supplement capsules. However, not all herbs for high blood pressure may be safe for everyone, and patients should seek medical advice before taking any. Here are some commonly used herbs for high blood pressure and tips on using them correctly.

Garlic.

Though it is not the most effective herb, garlic lowers both blood pressure and cholesterol levels, making it an excellent guard against heart disease. Studies show that taking garlic over several weeks can lower blood pressure by 5% to 10%.

Ginseng.

Siberian ginseng is an adaptogen - it helps the body adapt to physical, chemical, and biologica stress. It also increases blood oxygen without raising it to toxic levels, as some medications tend to do. Take three to 15 grams of ginseng powder or 10 to 50 drops of tincture daily. Note that Chinese ginseng is only half as effective as Siberian, and tends to promote hypertension.

Seaweeds.

Extracts from seaweeds like kelp and laminaria contain histamine and other blood pressure reducing chemicals, and are used in certain hypertension drugs. A Japanese study shows that kelp extract can significantly lower blood pressure without any side effects.

Hawthorn.

Hawthorn helps regulate heartbeat, remove water buildup around the heart, and stimulate the cardiovascular system. It is also an excellent heart tonic, making it ideal for those who suffer heart palpitations. Hawthorn can be taken as a tea using the dried leaves and flowers, or as a fluid extract or tincture.

Lemon balm.

Also a mild heart tonic, lemon balm calms the nerves and improves blood flow. It can be taken as a tea or added to food.

IMPORTANT: Herbs for high blood pressure are not as strictly regulated as conventional drugs, so not all products may be safe. Some herbs for high blood pressure may contain additives such as silica, starch, sugar, or gluten, which can have adverse effects on your health. Buy only products that are GMP-compliant to avoid such products, and make sure they do not contain any artificial colors and flavors.

Blood Glucose Meters

A blood glucose meter such as those produced by Bayer Diagnostics including the Ascencia Breeze and Ascensia Contour are a tool which helps a person with diabetes to meter their blood glucose (sugar) levels themselves. They may also sometimes be referred to as SMBG's.

Each one of the devices is about the size of an MP3 player and most run on batteries. There are even some models which come with a carry case also. These then allow you to store other essential pieces of equipment that you will need to carry with you so that you test your blood sugar levels at anytime and anywhere.

Most of the models today operate using two different systems. The first is known as reflectance photometer devices and these blast a small beam of light at the blood sample and will then measure the changes to the light as it bounces back at it. The other devices are known as electrochemical meters (the more modern of the two devices). It works by measuring the electrical currents produced by the glucose found in the blood sample provided. But which ever one you use will then produce a number which indicates just what level of glucose there is in your blood.

We have explained a little bit about what glucose meters do, but just how much does one cost? Certainly they are not as expensive as you may think and if you were to look for one you may find that there are some being offered to people for free. Certainly in the USA you may discover that your health insurance will cover the cost of you getting your diabetes supplies. However if they do not or you do not in fact have insurance then a lot of pharmacies and clinics will provide these meters for people to use at no charge whatsoever. Unfortunately although you may actually get the meter for free you may well discover that you will need to buy the test strips yourself for them. The problem being that the test strips available today can not be used between various different models and makes. So you will only be able to use the ones that are actually designed for the model you have. However the Ascensia Breeze helps to alleviate the situation because this uses a disc that contains strips so no longer do you need to worry about fiddling around with individual strips every time you need to carry out a test.

Infected Boils Can Lead to Blood Poisoning

Boils are a common problem with a big percentage of people and for the most part they don't present any medical problems.

Within a period of 4 to 10 days most boils will have come to a head and be ready to burst, or for more stubborn boils they might require lancing.

Obviously then, it's normal for most people to successfully clear up their boils with home remedies, but there are occasions where a medical professional will be required.

Boils are infected hair follicles and if this infection remains for a longer period than normal and doesn't appear to be progressing towards a 'head' then it might be necessary to see your doctor.

In some circumstances a troublesome boil can lead to blood poisoning.

I'm not trying to instill fear by mentioning this information and I certainly wouldn't recommend you rush off to the doctor as soon as you get a boil, (unless you suffer from some other health problems) but you do need to be aware of the condition of your boils and watch for any irregularities.

If the region of the boil becomes more and more inflamed and there are no signs of a head appearing then there is a real chance that the infection is spreading further.

All boils are infected but the infection is usually confined to the one region of the particular hair follicle that has become blocked.

The body's immune system will b fighting the infection and this is shown by the pus that forms as a head just before the boil bursts.

If this is not happening soon enough then it's likely that the body isn't fighting the infection well enough and a doctor might need to prescribe antibiotics in such circumstances.

Certainly try natural home remedies for boils first as they are usually successful, but don't hesitate to get help if they don't work as they should.

Private Cord Blood Banking Overview

It is an establishment that stores umbilical cord blood for future use. There are two types of umbilical cord blood banks, private banking and public blood bank which have developed over the years.

Cord blood transplant is a method of treating diseases of the blood and immune systems, some cancers and other blood disorders. Public banks have an exception over private banking in that they except donations to be used for anyone in need unlike the private cord blood banking.

Before any blood donations are made it is important for a pregnant mother interested to make the donation to contact the bank before the thirty fourth week of her pregnancy.

After the blood has been donated, all the information used to identify it is lost during the first or initial tests have been done.

The umbilical blood contains hematopoietic stem cells, progenitor cells which can form red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets.

The blood collection is very much important in its effectiveness as another alternative source of hematopoietic cells for transplantation.

The cells found in the umbilical cord have immunity to some disorders due to their minimal exposure to antigens especially when compared with adult blood stem cells.

The process happens after the umbilical cord has been cut and is removed from the fetal end of the cord and is usually done within ten or fifteen minutes of delivery.

Some additional cells mainly the stem cells can be collected from the placenta through the placenta cord banking. After the extraction of the placenta it is then carried to the stem cell laboratory for processing for other stem cells.

Adequate blood collection requires at least 80 ml so as to ensure that there is enough cells to be used in a transplantation process.

The blood is then taken to the laboratory after collection for processing and then it is cryo-preserved afterwards. Cropreservant is added to the cord blood during processing of the blood unit and its function is to aid the cells to survive while undergoing the cryogenic process.

The cord blood unit is gradually cooled to negative 90 Celsius and then it is added to liquid nitrogen frozen tank which keeps it frozen at about negative 195 Celsius.

The gradual freezing process is important in keeping the cells alive during the freezing process.

The blood later undergoes viral testing which include HIV and AIDs, hepatitis B and C and other blood diseases before it is stored.

Penile Rehabilitation - Improving Male Health After Prostate Surgery

What is Penile Rehabilitation?

Penile rehabilitation is a therapy designed to enhance male health and encourage natural erectile and sexual functions. It's particularly useful for aging men and those who have had a prostatectomy or some other urological surgeries that affect on male virility - making it difficult or impossible to achieve a natural erection or remain sexually active.

The penile tissue designed for erections can become atrophied like other parts of the body that do not get regular use. For a man, this means softer erections and smaller overall size that are harder to maintain. With penile rehabilitation, various exercises and treatments are available to keep the blood flowing to all of the parts of the penis, increasing blood circulation and sensitivity for good male health even later in life.

A healthy man in his prime will usually have 4-7 erections per day, in varying degrees of size, length of time, and firmness. These regular erections keep the penile tissues strong and working properly.

What kinds of penile rehabilitation treatments are available?

Drug Treatments - While not useful in the first 6 to 12 months after radical prostatectomy, drugs like sildenafil can help increase erections. However, this being the case, getting started with penile rehabilitation earlier using other methods is preferred as it not only helps achieve faster results, it improves the effectiveness of such drugs. There are more considerations with drugs, for instance, the side effects and the previous health conditions of a patient. For instance, users with diabetes, high blood pressure medicine, taking nitrates should not be using sildenafil. Some of the other options are safer and can be used for results in the first 6-12 months of penile rehabilitation.

Intraurethral Alprostadil (MUSE) - Roughly 30 - 40% of all men have sexual benefit from MUSE, another drug treatment option where a small pellet is placed inside about an inch or so into the male urethra, inducing an erection that lasts roughly an hour for most men. Most doctors have seen good results from Alprostadil, with few side effects. Many men prefer alprostadil over injections, which can be intimidating or even frightening for some.

Inracavernous Injections - Injections are one of the most surefire ways to achieve an erection, boasting a success rate over 3 in 4 men, far superior in results to other kinds of therapy. However, it is not as practical or ideal to inject directly into your genitals; this process takes great care in a clinic, and even those who actually do seek results at home must be instructed how to do so safely.

Vacuum Therapy Device - A medical grade vacuum pump designed for Erectile Dysfunction is a simple tool requiring no drugs, injections, or intrauretheral absorption. For most men, it's the safest form while a relatively high success rate in achieving erections firm enough for intercourse and can be the most economical long-term. With vacuum therapy, a cylinder is placed over the penis and negative vacuum pressure is "pumped", pulling blood into the genitals. This increased blood flow causes a natural erection. With a vacuum therapy device, penile rehabilitation is a simple operation done multiple times a day to keep the male unit healthy:

The goal of the vacuum pump is therapy, not necessarily sex (although it is used for both.) Since with rehabilitation the goal is to achieve multiple erections, a tension ring is not necessary for treatment.
The vacuum cylinder is placed around the male unit with the use of a water-based lubricant to help seal the edges.
The device is pumped (or its vacuum is turned on), which pulls the air out of the cylinder and creates the pressure that draws the blood in. An erection is usually achieved over the course of a couple minutes.
Keep the pressure on the erection; at least for 30 seconds to give the circulation time to open up.
Release the pressure and the erection will decrease in size. Wait until the penis is soft again.
Steps 3 - 5 over a period of 5 to 10 minutes.

With any case of erectile dysfunction, it's best to consult a physician rather than self-diagnosing or seeking your own treatment options. Evidence is appearing more frequently with links of erectile dysfunction is a symptom for life-threatening heart disease, urological or neurological disorders. Always seek the help of a doctor before taking any kind of medications or supplements.

Drinking Hibiscus Tea May Significantly Cut Blood Pressure

For as long as you can remember, your doctor has probably tested your blood pressure on every visit. This medical test has become so commonplace that many patients barely notice. If you struggle with high blood pressure, however, you know that lowering those numbers may be challenging, and risk factors like heredity are beyond your control. The fact is: high blood pressure affects most people as they age and may lead to serious complications, like heart attack and stroke. Thanks to new research, there is now a promising, natural way to reduce blood pressure.

How Tea Lowers Blood Pressure

Hibiscus is a flower native to warm, temperate regions. It is also one of the most common ingredients in herbal teas. To conduct their study, researchers at the USDA Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University, in Boston, Massachusetts chose 65 subjects with mild hypertension or pre-hypertension. The participants were not on blood pressure-lowering medications and ranged in age from 30 to 70.

The 65 subjects were divided into two groups. The first group drank three 8-ounce cups of hibiscus tea each day. The tea was made with 1.25 g of dried hibiscus and steeped for six minutes. The second group received a placebo. After six weeks, significant changes were noted in the group who drank the hibiscus tea. The systolic blood pressure of the placebo group remained unchanged, but for those drinking the tea, it dropped an average of 7 mm Hg. However, tea drinkers whose systolic blood pressure was on the higher end of the range saw double the reduction-about 14 mm Hg. Reductions in diastolic and arterial pressure were also noted, but these were not significantly different compared to the placebo group.

You may be wondering what miracle ingredient in hibiscus tea could produce such promising results. Hibiscus is mostly composed of anthocyanins and other flavanoids, as well as polyphenolic compounds and phenolic acids. These substances act as antioxidants, fighting cell damage and removing harmful free radicals from the body. The compounds in hibiscus tea have also been shown to act as an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. A separate study showed that hibiscus is able to lower systolic blood pressure as effectively as Captopril®, an ACE inhibitor.

Fighting Hypertension

Hypertension results when your heart pumps more blood than your arteries may be able to handle. Arteries may narrow due to cholesterol or other blockages, or there may be excessive stress on the heart. Your age and family history are risk factors for hypertension that are beyond your control, but there are a number of other ways to fight this condition and keep blood pressure in a healthy range.

The fascinating study on hibiscus tea shows that drinking this beverage can help many people lower systolic blood pressure. Simply by drinking a manageable amount of tea, you have the power to improve your condition. No side effects have been found, even when much greater amounts of hibiscus are consumed. Furthermore, the blood pressure-cutting effects of tea are comparable to drugs made for this very same purpose.

Talk to your doctor about drinking hibiscus tea, and monitor your numbers to see the difference it might make. You should continue your healthy lifestyle if you already have hypertension.

Regular exercise and a lowfat diet not only reduce blood pressure, but fight a wide array of other diseases. You should make sure to get plenty of potassium and vitamin D in your diet and significantly reduce your consumption of salt. Do not smoke or drink alcohol excessively, as this can put stress on your heart. Adding hibiscus tea to your natural treatment plan will help you fight hypertension and enjoy a healthy life.

High Blood Pressure Treatments

Having high blood pressure is dangerous, so you need to do something about it. There are plenty of medications that your doctor can prescribe for you, but there are also many things that you can do to naturally lower your blood pressure, and there are also many medications that you can take to make sure that it stays as low as possible.

You should start with your diet. Make sure that you eat foods that are low in fat and cholesterol. Diet is the best defense against high blood pressure. You can lower your blood pressure at least a little bit simply by eating the right foods, but you must stick to the healthy low fat and low cholesterol diet. This is the most important thing to do, and it should be done as soon as possible.

If you have been eating unhealthy food for a long time, it will take some time to see the effects of eating healthy food, but it is necessary. Eating healthy food will help your body, but you have to do it for a long time. It will do wonders for your body and you should make it your priority. It can't be stressed enough how important it is to eat healthy food.

The second most important thing is exercise. You should get some exercise. The best exercises for lowering your blood pressure are yoga, tai-chi or Chi Kung, but there are lots of other simple exercises that can help. You can find lots of resources and info on the internet about exercise. You need to be sure that your heart is very healthy, and that you are getting enough exercise.

If you abused your body for a long time it can take long to reduce your blood pressure.
If you are eating right and getting enough exercise, but you still have high blood pressure, it might be that you have a condition that causes high blood pressure, even if you don't do anything wrong. In such case, it could be important to use medication. This will help you to regulate your blood pressure. Talk to your doctor about the different medications, and how they can lower it. There are some natural techniques, like acupuncture and massage that can lower your blood pressure. Massage and acupuncture have been used to lower high blood pressure for ages.

Best Ways to Reduce High Blood Pressure Naturally

Hypertension is a condition that affects millions of people all over the world. For each person that is diagnosed, there are probably three that have high blood pressure without a proper diagnosis.

Dealing with blood pressure can be difficult. It's not simply a matter of finding the right medication and then continuing on with your day-to-day activities. Doctors and pharmacists can provide valuable information and can write prescription scripts, however many people these days would rather prefer to find ways to reduce high blood pressure naturally.

Many hypertension sufferers are aware that there are some harmful side effects to using medications, even though they are often able to control this problem. The problem lies in healing one health issue only to be bombarded with other health related side effects.

Finding ways to control this problem naturally is absolutely possible, however you also need to make sure it is going to be effective, otherwise you will so no improvement. It is also important to consider that natural treatments can be harmful in certain cases, if they are taken over a long period of time.

Completing your own research should help you to identify ways to reduce high blood pressure naturally and effectively, and you may have already found one such method, called Hawthorn. It has been used as an alternative treatment for many years in Asia and Europe. Studies have been conducted on patient's use of Hawthorn and the results have been extremely positive.

Hawthorn - How does it work?

This natural treatment inhibits the enzyme responsible for restricting or constricting blood vessels. This will allow blood to circulate freely around the body and as a direct result, will lower your blood pressure.

Hawthorn is also effective in decreasing the actual volume of blood, which will also helps control this problem.

What else can you do?

Having good general health while suffering from this condition means that Hawthorn is one of the ways to reduce high blood pressure naturally and is an option that you could discuss further with your doctor.

Other lifestyle changes will also be important to implement along with the treatment you choose, or are recommended. Including fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy products low in fat, and whole grains into your diet can also provide effective ways to reduce high blood pressure naturally.

It is always a great idea to cut out any excess salt and fats from your diet, as well as limit the intake of caffeine and replace it with water. Increase your exercise as well simply by including a half an hour walk each day.

Ways to reduce high blood pressure naturally are available to you in abundance; the key is finding something, making some small changes and being committed.

Bringing Down Your High Blood Pressure Naturally

According to an editorial in the Lancet, the risk of getting high blood pressure or hypertension as it is called in the medical community, is greater than 90 percent. Now, one in three people in the US has hypertension.

The new revised food pyramid of what is a supposed to be healthy diet, some breed of high grain, low fat food combination, has been scientifically proven to be a poor choice for hypertensive risk or even if you have high blood pressure already.

Over a decade ago, in 1998, ground breaking research showed that nearly 2/3 of people who had high blood pressure were also insulin resistant. In other words, high blood sugar and hypertension walk hand in hand.

In that study, they also found that if you were not the type where your blood pressure would drop overnight while you were sleeping, you were also at risk for cardiovascular problems. Eating a high grain diet that converts to sugar in the blood, further increases diabetic risk, and also has the potential to increase blood pressure. If you are the type of person who has hypertension because of your blood sugar levels, then getting your blood sugars normalized will also bring your blood pressure within normal ranges.

Because both blood pressure and blood sugar difficulties can potentially have no symptoms at all, it is a good idea of have both checked regularly after the age of 40. It is interesting to note that there are around 100 drugs that are prescribed for people with hypertension and in the July 2003 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, it was reported that despite the number of drugs available and the current knowledge of hypertension, no real progress has been made to control it in the population. Also in the June 2003 study by the British Medical Association, 97 percent of the people taking hypertensive medication had suffered side effects, strong enough to be deemed significant. That suggests that you have 3 chances out of 100 to have no side effects if you choose to take medication for your hypertension.

There is another way. Lifestyle changes have been shown to normalize blood pressure in around 85 percent of people who have hypertension. The first and biggest strategy is to begin to normalize your weight. Once you begin to adopt healthier eating patterns you can begin to adapt these twelve strategies to beat your high blood pressure.

Begin to walk. Work up slowly so that you can walk for longer and longer distances. You can even work up to power walking where you walk briskly for at least 30 minutes every day. Brisk aerobic exercise increases oxygen levels so that your heart works more efficiently. Keep trying to increase your speed and your distance so that you are increasing your strength and stamina.

Take time to breathe deeply. Sit in a chair with your back straight. Breathe as deeply as you can for five or ten minutes. Stress hormones elevate a kidney enzyme called renin which actually raises blood pressure. By slowly deep breathing and expanding your belly you exhale all the tension out of your body. Adding qi gong, tai chi or yoga to that deep breathing is another great stress buster.

Add more potassium rich foods to your diet. Naturally potassium rich foods include fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy products, whole grains, meat, poultry and fish. You need to watch the amount of animal protein that you eat because eating too much causes your body acid levels to rise which actually depletes potassium levels. Highly potassium rich foods include, bananas, oranges, apricots, strawberries, avocados, halibut, broccoli, tuna, parsley, spinach, potatoes, squash, Brussels sprouts, crimini mushrooms, kidney beans, eggplant, peas, cantaloupe, honeydew melon, chard, bell peppers, dried prunes, raisins, cauliflower, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers and cabbage.

It is important to read food labels to reduce sodium intake. By becoming a label reader, you will become more aware of how much salt is in prepared foods. Better yet, buy as little processed food as possible. Among those people with high blood pressure certain demographics are salt sensitive. Because there is no specific test to show which individuals are sensitive to salt it is important to be aware of how much salt you are using and reduce it as much as possible.

Add a half an ounce of dark chocolate that contains at least 70 percent cocoa to your diet. Dark chocolate contains flavanols which add elasticity to blood vessels. More elastic blood vessels can lower blood pressure.

Ask your doctor about adding Coenzyme Q10 to your daily regimen. CoQ10 is an antioxidant that has been shown to lower hypertension and improve energy production.

Add one alcoholic beverage to lower your blood pressure. Studies show that ¼ to ½ a drink per day will reduce blood pressure more than no drink at all. One drink per day has been shown in studies to lower risk of heart disease and is protective of the heart. Any more is detrimental.

Caffeine has been shown in studies to cause hypertension by tightening blood vessels. This can actually accentuate the effects of stress and raise blood pressure. By using decaf coffee, tea and other beverages, you are less likely to have a spike in blood pressure if you become stressed.

Try hibiscus tea. Participants in a study that drank 3 cups of hibiscus tea daily had a significant decrease in hypertension over a six week period. The drop in blood pressure was consistent with results that would have been obtained by using a blood pressure medication. It is the phytochemicals in the hibiscus that are responsible, so look for teas that list hibiscus near the top of the list of ingredients.

If you work more than 41 hours per week you risk adding hypertension to your list of health complaints by 15 percent. People who work overtime a lot are too tired to exercise and eat healthfully. These tough economic times not only add stress to your daily life, they add overtime, too. Try to rest and eat well as often as possible.

If you have hypertension and you are on medications, studies show that you can lower your blood pressure further by breathing deeply and slowly while listening to soothing music for 30 minutes per day.
If you snore loudly, maybe it's time to get it checked out. People who snore loudly, generally have additional sleep apnea. Many apnea sufferers also have high aldosterone counts. Aldosterone is a hormone that can boost blood pressure. Studies show that at least half of all apnea sufferers have elevated blood pressure.

By adopting healthy strategies and lifestyle choices, you can lower your blood pressure while being monitored by your health care professional.

Critical Analysis of in Cold Blood - What Do They Mean by "In Cold Blood"

There are many clinical and colloquial terms used to describe or classify murder. A general definition of murder is the deliberate killing of another human. Branching from the broad definition are more specific classifications of murder-first degree murder, second degree murder, third degree murder, manslaughter, negligent homicide, premeditated murder, etc.. There are also more colloquial terms that people use to describe a murder. An example would be, murder in cold blood.

The layman terms are very interesting in how they are used within society. In cold blood is actually a murder that is ruthless and unfeeling with premeditation. Premeditation involves planning, stalking and /or deliberately acting out thoughts that were made in advance. However, we often hear people say: "He was murdered in cold blood," when the circumstances are not always congruent with premeditation. For example, if a jealous husband walks in on his wife with a lover and kills them in a fit of rage, people will often say he murdered them in cold blood. This may be because the wife and lover were unarmed or in a vulnerable state, but it still does not equal premeditation. It could also be attributed to the frequent misuse by print and air media. I have seen a number of my local newspaper headlines that read "in cold blood...." But, if you read the content, it is usually not a premeditated murder. A critical analysis of in cold blood is needed here. The layman usually does not understand the technical or legal difference between first, second, or third degree murder and how each carry a different sentence and weight during trial. The misuse by media outlets further act to cement the misuse onto society.

Some may see the difference a moot point and feel that murder is murder. However, our legal system hinges on accuracy to provide the blind balance in fairness. If the jury, peers, public, etc... hear "murder in cold blood," they automatically imagine the most atrocious circumstances. They don't stop to do a critical analysis of in cold blood and see if the shoe actually fits. Premeditation flies out of their thoughts as the words formulate a stereotypical meaning. Whether the accused committed a premeditated crime or not, is now irrelevant to the listener. They have a preconceived notion in their mind.

Without a critical analysis of in cold blood, what it really means, and if it is actually applicable, the accused is being cheated of the fair trial that our nation promises. It also lessens the inference when used applicably. I fear that if we do not pay closer attention to the substance behind the words we use, criminals will be the only ones that benefit. In cold blood and premeditation will eventually lose their power in meaning, from misuse.

There is already considerable judicial criticism related to the hair splitting differences between first and second degree murder, without adding colloquial terms used out of context to the mix. Until there is a critical analysis of in cold blood, at the federal level, there will continue to be an imbalance in the judicial process.

Low Blood Sugar: Hypoglycemia

When you feel exhausted and your doctor can't find a cause, you may be told that you have hypoglycemia. Then your doctor must look for the cause because low blood sugar is the result of something going wrong in your body.

Your brain gets more than 98 percent of its energy from sugar in your bloodstream. There is only enough sugar in your bloodstream to last about three minutes, so your liver constantly releases sugar from its cells into your bloodstream. But your liver can store only enough sugar to last 12 hours at rest, so it must manufacture new sugar from protein and other energy stores.

When blood sugar levels drop, you may feel anxious, shaky, sweaty, hungry, a tingling in your skin or your heart may beat rapidly. More severe symptoms include confusion, a sensation of warmth, weakness or fatigue, loss of memory and in its extreme, seizures and passing out. As you suffer repeat attacks of low blood sugar, they affect you less and your symptoms lessen.

There are two types of low blood sugar. The first type occurs when your blood sugar rises too high, causing your pancreas to release a large amount of insulin that drops your blood sugar too low. The second type is a slow drop in blood sugar caused by your liver running out of stored sugar. Doctors used to think that insulin-induced hypoglycemia follows meals and that your liver running out of sugar doesn't follow meals, but they now know that both types can occur any time.

It is almost impossible to diagnose hypoglycemia by drawing blood after you suffer an attack of dizziness, weakness or fainting because your body produces adrenalin immediately and raises blood sugar levels to normal, before your doctor can draw your blood. Hypoglycemia can be diagnosed by feeding you lots of sugar and measuring your blood sugar level every half hour for several hours. If you indeed suffer from hypoglycemia, your doctor then has to find the cause, which can include a damaged liver, tumors or glandular abnormalities, or an inadequate amount or excess of many different hormones.
